The piece has interesting and surprising facts to know when considering which used cars make the most sense. Here on Oahu and where I used to live in Seattle we have a lot of good used cars but this will help to make a more informed decision overall. For it’s part, the said article notes that buying a pre-owned (guess that term is going to stick with us, like it or not) car is more popular than ever Here is the first fact that surprised me: on average, a new car loses 20 percent of its value the moment you drive it off the dealer’s lot, says Foley. I knew the new-car hit you take is bad, but I didn’t know it’s that bad! I wish they would do a story on which used cars have the most DUI issues. I would also like to see a breakdown by city of which vehicles are most popular in say, Seattle as opposed to oahu or Los Angeles for example.
People—okay let’s just be honest, mostly men—love new cars. They love them with red-hot passion the way women love clothes and the Pottery Barn, but it seems so much more cost-effective to buy a car used and easier to afford a make and model you really want. It is just not always popular to buy Oahu used cars or at least that is how it sometimes seems over here on Oahu half the time.
Foley took many factors into account and came up with the following:
In the compact category the Hyundai Elantra won the prize. Foley says even a new Hyundai Elantra is a good deal starting at $14,145, but, he raves, a used Hyundai Elantra is an absolute steal. A 2007 model, can be found for less than eight thousand. It does 27 mpg and he says it’s a “roomy, well-finished car.”
Next in the honorable line-up is the Honda Accord for the midsize category. The Honda Accord is the perennial no-brainer smart car. Foley notes that the Honda’s Accord consistently scores high on the J.D. Power and Associates long-term-dependability studies. He does add that this year it was beaten by both the Buick LaCrosse and the Mercury Milan! Now that is a shocker to me! Just do me a favor and avoid a DUI when you get your vehicle so you do not have to rush out and find yourself an oahu or Seattle DUI attorney or something like that.

My husband and I just moved to Southern California and so I know from firsthand experience that investors from beyond our borders are buying up our deflated real estate.It is the same thing over on kauai as well as the big island of Hawaii. All in all, I suppose this could be considered good news for the slumping real estate and vacation rentals market as a whole.

According to the Business Courier, International buyers are grabbing up U.S. residential real estate, with investors from Canada, Mexico, the U.K. and China doing the most grabbing. The story cites a report in the Washington Business Journal as its source for this information. Dental Care a Luxury for Many in the Richest Country in the World

I just returned from Bergen County, nice place over there. Meanwhile, in the rather dismal picture of the state of health care for many poor and middle class people in the United States, the state of their oral health is seldom ever mentioned. The Tampa website, CreativeLoafing.com, ran a story March 3, 2010, under the headline, Toothless in Florida; How oral care gets lost in the healthcare crisis.
Arrielle Stevenson begins her article by introducing Danielle Beckmann, 24, who visited the dentist for the first time since 2003.
Beckmann was quoted as saying, “My gums on the front of my bottom teeth are receding so much that the bone is almost exposed. The dentist says I am jeopardizing losing my teeth.”
Stevenson reports that $1,300 was the total presented for the surgery necessary to reconstruct Beckmann’s gums.
Beckmann is a senior at the University of South Florida’s St. Petersburg, and she is not covered under her parents’ policy and is not able to pay for the school’s private health insurance. Dental coverage is not included in the school’s plan. I just returned from Oahu, checking out the overall real estate market there and thought it was about that time to get blogging yet again here. Reuters has filed a report today, Tue Mar 2, 2010, under the headline, Canadian auto sales surge in February, Toyota up. The story was written by John McCrank.
Reporting from Toronto, McCrank writes that Canadian auto sales increased for a third straight month in February, and even Toyota made strong gains, the company’s massive recall in late January notwithstanding. I just returned from Baltimore, time to get blogging. Ray LaHood, transportation secretary, was quoted as saying, “My advice to anyone who owns one of these vehicles is to stop driving it. Big Island of Hawaii hit hard by Recession

Even the Hawaiian paradise of the Kona Coast on Hawaii is feeling the recession pinch. The year has been tough, with jobs going away, coworkers being forced to go away, and stores closing up. The jobless rate is above 10%, even though tourism hasn’t been off as much as everyone feared. The stock market has come back after falling off a cliff.
